Summary of Position
The Technical Director is responsible for the daily technical operations of the theatre including all scenic and paint construction, installation, and maintenance. The TD is responsible for the hiring and onboarding of all scenic team members. An ideal candidate communicates clearly and efficiently, manages multiple productions and events in different phases of completion, and can successfully lead employees to complete their tasks efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all technical aspects of productions with a primary focus on building, painting, installing, and striking scenic elements
Advise Production Manager on the technical specifications, construction costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual projects and supervise the implementation of approved technical designs
Create and distribute build drawings to scenic staff for all constructed elements
Supervise and assist with scenic construction to insure support of the artistic vision within the limitations of schedule, labor, and budget
Determine the necessary technical support in collaboration with other production departments, including lighting, sound, stage management, and all special needs necessary for productions in advance of production dates
Attend meetings and rehearsals as needed, to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting successful productions
Assist with the preparation and control of annual scenic budgets; maintain inventory and order specialized scenic supplies
Administrative tasks include scenic budget creation, expense tracking and allocation
Assist in recruiting, onboarding, training, and assignment of technical staff
Provide logistical support for facility rentals and visiting productions regarding safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations
Monitor the condition of equipment and technical assets of the theatre including scene shop, storage, stage, and rigging equipment; arrange for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; perform preventive maintenance on equipment
Recommend purchases of technical equipment
Other duties as assigned
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
5 years of Technical Direction experience in professional theatrical organizations
Experience forming and managing relationships with visiting artists, staff, and overhire
Advanced knowledge of theatrical rigging
Advanced knowledge of ACAD or Vectorworks
Excellent time management, organization, and administrative skills
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Outlook
Physical Demands
Able to lift at least 50 pounds
Able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to lifting and bending, as well as climbing ladders
Ability to work from heights(ladders, scaffolding, and lifts)

Compensation Rate:
Nantucket Performing Arts Center strives to design equitable compensation programs. The projected salary range for this position is $1,500/wk , commensurate with experience with on island housing provided. This is the targeted range of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. This range may be modified in the future. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate’s skills, expertise, and experience as it relates to the position qualifications and responsibilities.

Summary of Position
The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate the presentation and/or production of performances and events presented by and/or at NPAC. This position primarily manages and administers production operation details of multiple productions and events with many occurring at the same time or in close sequence in theaters and event spaces. The Production Manager will be responsible for creatively solving production problems while working within the guidelines of labor agreements, existing inventory, and available schedule; and assisting to build the policies, procedures, and standards for NPAC’s second season, and our first in a newly-renovated space.
Key Responsibilities
As Production Manager for internal and external special events: review artists show contracts and technical specifications; provide production budgets, schedules, and labor estimates; Schedule crews; order production equipment and supplies; report trucking and ferry activities and needs. Prepare and distribute production schedules and designer plans including drawings of ground or space plans, to departments affiliated with presentations including, but not limited to: Programming, Facilities and Company Management.
Production manages theatrical productions, including all fully staged productions, readings, booked-in music and comedy acts, and rentals. The Production Manager contacts artist and/or artist’s management to request technical information, receives technical forms and stage plots from programming staff, artists or traveling productions, and determines production needs, crew (Stagehands, wardrobe) staffing, and schedule requirements. Serves as primary production liaison for all productions. Maintains and disseminates technical specifications of the venue(s); reviews artist show contracts and technical specifications; provides production budgets, schedules, labor estimates; schedules crews; orders production equipment and supplies and reports trucking activities.
Provides administrative support in Production Operations and Maintenance; maintains event schedules; orders and tracks production equipment and supplies; assists with yearly budget.
Other duties as assigned such as overseeing maintenance or capital improvement projects in theater spaces.
Key Qualifications
A minimum of 5-7 years in theatrical production management, technical production, stage management, and/or production design is required.
Preference for experience in theatrical design or theatrical technical management.
Thorough working knowledge of all areas of theatrical production and presentation.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Outlook
Knowledge of ArtsVision software for production and programming calendars a plus.
Excellent organizational, communication and financial management skills as well as supervisory experience is necessary in order to successfully and efficiently facilitate the duties of a manager in this department.
The ability to work well under pressure, and prioritize in a multi-task environment is essential.
Candidate must be willing to work onsite from June 10th 2026-September 30th with hybrid flexibility
