SETTING THE STAGE
for the next chapter of the performing arts on Nantucket.
Earlier this year, a group of artists, philanthropists, and community members came together with a shared purpose: to save the theater at 5 North Water Street and preserve it as a permanent home for live performance on the island.
The result is the Nantucket Performing Arts Center (“NPAC”)—a bold new space that honors the building’s theatrical roots while expanding its role as a cultural cornerstone for Nantucket. That means not only world-class performances, but also year-round programs that serve the island’s students, local artists, and community groups.
To realize this vision—and to ensure NPAC’s long-term sustainability—we are in the midst of a $13 million capital campaign to acquire the campus, renovate the theater and artist residence, develop year-round programming, and ensure NPAC thrives as a shared space for art, learning, and connection.

With your support, we will:
-
Completely reimagine the balcony
into a stunning new section of the theater with 50 premium seats and a VIP lounge and bar.
-
Install retractable seating with a second aisle to maintain comfort, accessibility, and sightlines while turning the orchestra section into a flexible space,
maintaining comfort, accessibility, and exceptional sightlines, while enabling a flat floor for flexible uses: standing-room concerts, seated dinners, community events, and more.
-
Replace the current temporary stage
with a modular platform system that allows for multiple stage sizes and heights—transforming the theater into a true multi-use venue. Imagine a single week with a play, a jazz trio, a children’s show, a seated dinner, and a headlining comedian, plus community dance recitals, lectures, and holiday events during the winter months.
-
Enhance lighting and Improve acoustics
to ensure every word and note can be enjoyed, whether it’s a world- class musical artist, Broadway musical, intimate interview, community chorus or student performance.
-
Renovate the on-site artist residence,
providing a comfortable, welcoming home that helps attract exceptional talent to the island year-round.
